QuestionsCategory: GSTAmazon Kindle direct publishing author/ publisher
Gowtham A asked 6 years ago

My name is Gowtham. I have published some ebook/paperback on Amazon’s book publishing platform called kindle direct publishing (KDP). Most of my book sales come from US, UK and india. At the end of every two month of the book sell, I will receive my payment with 15% withholding tax by Amazon US.
My annual income will be under 20 lakhs, should I wanted to register GST and pay GST for each and every book sale?
Can I get back that 15% withholding tax from Amazon US and how?

Hi, until and unless your turnover exceeds INR 20 lakhs, you are not required to register for GST. That’s applicable in case of export of service too (inter-state supply).
You shall refer to Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement between India and USA to check if you can claim your withholding tax (provided you pay tax here) or claim credit of such tax paid in other country (USA in this case)
