Registration For Profession Tax Enrollment Certificate (PT-EC)

Taxpayers registered under Goods and Services Tax in Maharastra are now facing a new challenge as they are compulsorily required to register under Professional Tax. Many of the taxpayers have received the following notices.
As per the amendments in the Profession Tax Act 1975, a person (natural / legal) registered under MGST Act is liable to enroll for Profession Tax Enrollment Certificate (PT-EC) and pay Rs.2500 per annum. In addition, if the business is having any employee whose monthly salary is above Rs. 7500/- is also required to obtain Profession Tax Registration Certificate (PT-RC) and pay tax after deducting the same from the employee’s salary as per the provisions of law.
From our office records, it is seen that despite being registered under MGST Act, you have neither obtained PT-EC nor PT-RC. Failure to comply with the provisions of the Act may result in penal proceedings. Therefore, you are kindly requested to enroll yourself under Profession Tax Act and also obtain PT Registration Certificate, if applicable. You are further requested to make necessary payment of appropriate Profession Tax.
If you have already obtained required enrollment / registration and paid the taxes you are kindly requested to mail the same on [email protected] on or before 20/02/2018.
To apply for enrollment / registration kindly follow the link – https://mahagst.gov.in/en/new-dealer-registration.
To make payment of tax please follow the link – https://mahagst.gov.in/en/payments. For all your payment related queries you may also refer to a Trade Circular 48T of 2017 which is available at the following link –
In case you have any queries / difficulties you can visit our website www.mahagst.gov.in or contact our Help Desk on 022-26591747/57 extn– 5305/ 5310.
Although many taxpayers are not providing any professional services or not employing any salaried employee, still they are compulsorily required to obtain registration under MGST Act. This requirement is creating unnecessary complexities for businesses and defeats the ease of doing business policy.
